This month just a laid back get to know everyone in the group and start planning future events for the upcoming year event. Have a great idea? Have a topic your are dying to learn about? Lets chat and make this meetup for you and what you are looking to get out of it!

Otherwise known as a Tweetup! We are combining our event this month with the Hampton Roads Internet Marketing and Technology Meetup (a private group, you can RSVP where ever you like, including twtvite, which will tweet you a handy reminder the day before the event!)

We are having at Gordon Biersch in town center who will be providing free appetizers and free wifi! Thanks @GBVABeach for hosting this months meetup!

Why should you attend Hampton Roads largest tweetup?

1. Learn new twitter strategies
2. Meet your tweeps in person and get to know the person behind the avatar
3. Not on twitter yet? That's ok! You can still join un and get in on "what is everyone doing?" and "what do I tweet about?
4. Connect with like minded techie folks who share similar interests
5. Why not? It is the end of the month and time to relax with friends and a cold one at Gordon Biersch's.

So let's connect IRL ( in real life) and take our twitter, facebook and other social media relationships to the next level. By the way, a tweetup is just a bunch of people getting together to hang out & connect with each other. Think of a networking event without the speakers or formal parts, just the fun & talking.

We are using #hrva and #tweetup for our hashtags for this event!

This is Falcon_'s fault.

We've tweeted up there before, they seemed OK with it, the parking (behind the Westin) wasn't bad, and the foodstuffs were good. There's some wifi around, but not directly provided by Melt.

Trying a new thing: a food court! You can get whatever you like at a food court. There's lots of parking, it's relatively easy to find, and of course if you get bored there's other stuff to do.

There may or may not be WiFi. If you're interested in netbooks, I'll be bringing a new Asus EeePC 900A with the atom processor.

Michael Wade is 30. He has a table for 15 people. He suggests you park in the Fountain Way garage to get to the Firkin and Frigate.

No Maybe RSVPs because they count towards the limit. I don't know how many people will show aside from the ones RSVP'd here but since it's 1: on the peninsula and 2: late notice I don't think it will be a problem.

This is at 12:15 am Saturday, meaning 16 minutes after 11:59pm Friday.

You should come because this place is pretty neat this late, brimming with activity, conversations, and good times. You may want to bring a few business cards with your Twitter or blog or something URL on it in case you meet someone you would like to get in touch with later. This may have the awesome side effect of expanding the Twitter effect on the peninsula!

Feel free to invite your nite owl friends. This may become regular, or may get moved to after midnight Saturday if this isn't as good a time for others (not this meetup, but future events of the same type).

There's no WiFi, so don't bring your laptop if you can't use a bluetooth phone as a modem or have one of those USB or PCMCIA aircard thingies. There's some wifi nearby, one's locked and two are iffy. If you've got a great wifi antenna, then maybe you'll be in luck.

P.S. If you would like to list your business which uses Twitter on http://twithr.com, or would like to be listed as an HR twit, or would like to put your Twitter utilizing local group (like 757.rb, @metaskills) on there, send an @reply to @twitHR.

John Cachero Photography is organizing the May 2009 Hampton Roads Tweetup Photowalk to take place in Olde Towne Portsmouth, Virginia. For the past month, I’ve been vigorously trying to find all the creative minds in Hampton Roads who are on Twitter, and now that I’ve found quite a handful of you, I wanted to bring us all together. Whether you’re a photographer or not, whether you own a camera or not, even whether you’re on Twitter or not, feel free to join us.

Info blog post:

If you RSVP here, please click through to the info blog post and comment there as well. Thanks.

Hash tags: #HRVA #tweetup #photowalk

If you haven't been following me, I've been making a push to designate #HRVA as the Hampton Roads, Virginia hash tag. It's slowly catching on. Let's make this happen.

This date was picked thanks to Meet-O-Matic. The information was e-mailed out a few times and tweeted a bit so that more people could respond, and this date is good for Adam, T Campbell, and Jennie_Z. I really hope more people use the service for our next meetup as just 5 responses aren't very much.

I did a lot of thinking as to the location. Panera in Norfolk wasn't too friendly, and the parking wasn't super easy. However this one in Greenbrier should have lots of parking, and if we want to move to Bean There Cafe (another place Twitterers liked) after eating, that's very easy to do as it's very close by. I'll probably be at the Panera around 7:05 or so, but I'm putting 7:15.

As always, I really suggest you follow @tweetup757_ and set it up so you WILL get device alerts sent for that account. I have to approve followers (a way to avoid the strange spammers on Twitter getting sensitive information), and I'll get that done before the meetup. If we do end up moving to Bean There, I'll tweet so on @tweetup757 and @tweetup757_.

Both Panera and Bean There have WiFi. You don't have to bring your laptop, but if you want to I can't really stop you. You don't have to live tweet the event, and most people don't (they're busy talking to other people), but if you like to that's cool.

Hi.

I'm not setting an RSVP limit. Bean There can hold about 30 people (some without chairs, I think) and Panera can probably hold more. It probably will have more. I find that since 1 out of 3 Yes RSVPs don't show, and 1 out of 6 Maybe RSVPs do show, it's silly to really worry about it. If you're really super sure you're coming, you might want to make a nametag for yourself with your name and twitter ID on it. Like:

Tom
@Tom

or

Scott
@dharmabox

We have indeed passed out nametags before, but since many went to waste, we have realized it's silly to waste ink and paper on it.

Thanks! And if you want to bring a non-twitterer, that's ok, just mention them in your msg when you RSVP. We'll surely try to convince them to sign up.
